Sunderland & Gateshead Under 17s progressed to the quarter finals of the FA Girls Youth Cup after victory by the odd goal in three
with Coach Amy Westmarland full of praise for her side’s performance.
Sunderland & Gateshead took the lead in the 34th minute through a well taken Chloe Johnson goal and looked to be taken control of the game.
Playing a good passing game, this caused a number of problems for the travelling team. Essex FA levelled in the 63rd minute, but Sunderland & Gateshead re established their hold on the game with a well worked goal in the 68th minute through Chloe Johnson after a clever from the right hand side beat the Essex defenders and was confidently put away.
Sunderland & Gateshead created a number of good chances throughout the
course of the game which could have seen a much more comfortable victory for the U17s. All the players put in a fantastic effort
throughout the game and deserved to progress to the quarter finals of the FA Girls Youth Cup.
Amy Westmarland commented on the performance...
"The girls represented the centre fantastically well with a professional approach from start to finish. The result was well deserved with all players putting in a great effort from start to finish. I thought the whole squad gave a great account of themselves and should be proud of their achievement.”
Claire Robinson, Sunderland & Gateshead Technical Director said...
start from the players within the FA Girls Youth Cup, the squad has performed well within a number of learning experiences whilst
progressing through the rounds. Having earned the win within the second round we now hope to see the girls carrying on this
high standard of performance into their league fixtures."
