Players celebrate Sir Bobby Robson National Football Day

22 August

Sunderland Ladies joined in the national celebrations to honour the life and achievements of Sir Bobby Robson on Saturday 10th August.

The events, organised as part of The Football Association's 150th anniversary celebrations and to pay homage to the former England manager, provided a showcase of the organisation’s work at a grassroots level and featured everything from tournaments, skills sessions, women’s football, disability football, refereeing and coaching.

One such event took place at the Sir Bobby Robson Football Centre in Ushaw Moor, Durham, close to where Sir Bobby was born. Sunderland players, Stephanie Bannon, Keira Ramshaw, Jordan Atkinson and Abby Holmes were in attendance and were joined by Sir Bobby’s wife Lady Elsie Robson and elite referee Howard Webb.

Also taking part in the day’s events were players Kelly McDougall, Rachel Furness, Sarah McFadden and Charlotte Potts.  They attended a Girls Football Festival which took place at Gateshead Rutherford AFC, where various activities including a penalty shoot-out took place.
