Win at Rotherham . . . Rotherham 1 - 3 Sunderland
News
Sunderland were unchanged as they went into this game full of confidence following five straight league wins. In a scrappy first half of few chances both teams found it difficult to find any rhythm. Nicola Devine twice went close for the visitors before Rotherham capitalised on a wayward backpass to take the lead on 35 minutes through a Suzanne Davies goal. The home side were happy to defend their lead as Sunderland struggled to break them down.

The second half began with the Wearsiders in a much more positive mood. Sarah Danby, Steph O'Brien and Lucy Bronze all went close before Danby hit the equaliser on 70 minutes following a fine move through the middle. As Sunderland pushed for a winner Rotherham were happy to frustrate their efforts as Abby Holmes, Steph Bannon and Jess Havelock went close. With time running out the visitors pressure paid off as Natalie Gutteridge and Rachel Lee hit late goals to give Sunderland the reward their play deserved and send them joint second in the Premier League Northern Division.

Manager Mick Mulhern said after the game.... "They gave us a lot of respect playing 5-4-1 at home and they rarely came out of their own half. Again we showed character and patience in coming from a goal down. We've worked hard in training and we kept playing the right way and didn't panic. We got the result we deserved by playing to our strengths. That's 6 league wins in a row and I can't praise the team highly enough."
