News
Sunderland travelled to Stockport yesterday high in confidence and hoping to continue their rich vein of form which had seen them record 6 straight league victories.
The visitors began brightly and took the lead after 5 mins through Sarah Danby. As Sunderland continued to press forward Harrop conceded an own goal on 21 mins following a fine shot by Rachel Lee. Further efforts by Gutteridge and Bronze were beaten away before the Black Cats looked home and dry on 36 mins as Steph O’Brien finished off a great move by driving home the 3rd from a narrow angle.

There was no let up after the break as Sunderland continued to dominate. A Danby shot came back off the bar before further goals from England U17 internationals Lucy Bronze and Demi Stokes completed a brilliant performance which moved the Wearsiders back into joint 2nd place and sounded a warning to their rivals as they go into the new year.

Manager Mick Mulhern said after the game…. “ That was almost the complete performance. We were immaculate from start to finish. Every single player deserves credit, even the substitutions joined seamlessly into our pattern of play. I’m sure everyone around us will sit up and take notice. We are the form team and but for an indifferent start to the season we would be the ones setting the pace.”
