SAFC Girls Centre of Excellence Information
Centre of Excellence News
Sunderland AFC Girls Centre of Excellence is one of currently 50 FA affiliated girls centre of excellences nationwide. The purpose of the Centres is to identify players of outstanding ability and place them in a technical and educational programme designed to produce footballing excellence in conjunction with personal development.
The Centre allows girls from a range of ages who have the potential to develop their natural ability and take the first step on the ladder onto the England Talent ID programme. Players also have the opportunity to play against other Centres from around the country in organised regional festivals.
SAFC Girls Centre of Excellence Centre Director is Paul Harrison. All staff are FA qualified, with sessions structured to improve players technical and tactical skills, as well as working on social and psychological aspects of the game. The girls are given full coaching support with FA qualified coaches and Fitness Trainers, and are regarded as being the first step on the pathway to the National U15, U17, U19 and U23 England squads
We are very proud of our tradition of nurturing talented young female players and are delighted that 4 players from our U16 squad have been selected to allow the next England U17 training camp. The players selected are Lucy Bronze, Demi Lee Stokes, Lucy Staniforth and Jordan Nobbs. They are just 4 of the many past success stories the Centre of Excellence has achieved with three past participants now entering into the Womens England Senior Squad (Jill Scott, Stephanie Houghton & Carly Telford,).
