The second half began with Sunderland in total control and playing some fine flowing football but unable to kill the game off. An Emma Bentley volley flew just wide while a Lucy Bronze shot grazed the woodwork. Wednesday began to come into the game as they pressed for an equaliser and for the first time Sunderland found it hard to get out of their own half. However, the home side weathered the storm and finished with a late flurry as Elisha Fry and Sarah Danby had efforts cleared off the line as Sunderland ran out worthy 1 0 winners.
