Abandoned! Sunderland 0 - 1 Lincoln City
Sunderlands top of the table clash with Lincoln City became a casualty of the arctic weather, when the match was abandoned at half time. The game began in blizzard conditions and as the half progressed the snow fell heavier and conditions deteriorated to such an extent that the match officials had little option other than to call a halt for the safety of the players.
The game started cautiously with both sides finding it difficult to keep their footing. As the game progressed Sunderland adapted better to the conditions and had most of the possession. However it was the visitors who took the lead after 26 mins with a super strike out of the blue. There seemed little danger when Jodie Snelson cut inside and unleashed a shot from 25 yards which dipped just under the bar.
Sunderland continued to press forward and Lincoln were content to rely on the odd break. A long ball out of defence almost caught Sunderland out but keeper Helen Alderson pushed the ball out for a corner. As the ball came in, it was only partially cleared and Snelson volleyed goalward for Alderson to tip the ball over at full stretch. The home side finished the half well on top and were unlucky not to level as Sarah Danby, Natalie Gutteridge and Lucy Bronze went close.
