ENGLAND INTERNATIONAL SIGNS!
Sunderland Women's FC are delighted to announce the signing of Senior England International, Kelly McDougall from Everton Ladies.
Manager Mick Mulhern said ...
"Kelly is an excellent player who will add extra quality and much needed experience to our squad. In January I was made aware of the fact Kelly would be moving to the North East and at that point I knew she had to be our number one transfer target, as England International players don’t come along every week. Obviously we had two good seasons in the National League and to be honest I was a big fan of Everton and the quality they possessed. I saw Kelly play against us on five or six occasions and she always put in top class performances.
Kelly is a current England senior international with 9 caps to her name. She has represented her country at all age groups. I’m delighted she will be adding to those caps whilst a Sunderland player. Our aim is obviously promotion and Kelly’s big game experience will certainly help. She was in the Everton side that beat Arsenal in the League cup final earlier this year and the games don’t get much bigger than that.
I contacted Kelly, as well as her club Everton, on 1st June and was informed there were other clubs also interested. To be honest I would have been surprised if there wasn’t, and I knew we would have competition for her signature. It can’t have been easy leaving such a successful club, especially and after 10 years of very loyal service.
I’m delighted that Kelly sees her future with Sunderland and I’m sure the rest of our squad will be as delighted as I am".
