SUNDERLAND SIGN NEWCASTLE CAPTAIN
Sunderland Women's FC are delighted to announce the signing of Vicky Greenwell, from local neighbours Newcastle United Women.
Manager Mick Mulhern said ...
"Certain players were targeted as potential signing’s during the pre-season and the key factor in each case was the player had to have the ability to add something extra to the squad. Vicky Greenwell certainly comes into that category and I’m therefore delighted to sign Vicky for Sunderland.
Vicky is a good athlete who has had a good football education at Newcastle Women, as well as the Women’s Academy at Gateshead College. I tried to sign her a few years ago, but unfortunately on that occasion she decided to stay with her club. I had no problem with that and her honesty was appreciated.
Vicky is a good footballer and being naturally left footed she will add balance to our defence.
Vicky has had two years in our league with Newcastle and was their captain last season, so obviously she will be bringing that valuable experience to our club. She will also add much needed competition to the first team squad which can only be healthy throughout a long season.
I know Vicky won’t regret making the switch and everyone at Sunderland is delighted she is with us".
