JAMIE AND SOPHIE RETURN!
Sunderland are pleased to announce that Jamie Leigh Scott and Sophie Williams have returned to the club, from local rivals Newcastle.
Jamie Leigh Scott has returned to the club where it all began for her six years ago.
Manager Mick Mulhern commented ...
“Jamie was at our Centre of Excellence and progressed straight into the first team. She was tremendous for us but unfortunately she broke her leg in a game at Manchester City and never pulled on a red & white shirt again”.
Upon her recovery Jamie played for Doncaster Belles in the National League before spending a few years at Newcastle. Mulhern went on to say ...
“Jamie is a strong confident player who will bring a lot of experience to our young squad. Her communication skills and general composure, will certainly help during big games. It’s important we bring in the right type of player, not only to help in our quest for promotion, but to be fully integrated into our squad, should we achieve our objective. Along with our other signings this summer, Jamie certainly fits into that category.”

“I have worked with Sophie for several years, ever since her time at the Sunderland Centre of Excellence and I’m pleased she has returned to the club. Sophie has all the qualities that an attacking player needs in this league. She is strong and brave and her pace frightens the life out of defenders, but more importantly she can score goals.
Sophie broke into the England set up, whilst at our Centre of Excellence and I believe if she is prepared to work hard at her game, then who knows what she can achieve. After all, she has played for us and scored goals in the National League as a 16 year old. I hope Sophie’s long term targets are to repeat that feat with Sunderland. But that’s for the future, as Sophie’s short term goals are to put pressure on last seasons attacking players and stake her claim for a first team shirt. We have some good strikers at the club, but Sophie’s arrival will certainly force them to raise their standards to the next level.
Competition is healthy and that can only be a benefit to the club”.
