Sunderland's Lucy Bronze, Lucy Staniforth and Jordan Nobbs all helped England secure a place in the Semi-finals of the FIFA U17's
Women's World Cup, with a 5-4 victory on penalties, over Japan. England had to come from behind twice to earn a 2-2 draw
after 90 minutes, however, a goalless exta-time took the game to a penalty shoot-out.
The Sunderland trio played
an important role in the game, as all three were named in the starting line-up. Lucy Bronze was solid in an unaccustomed role at the
heart of the defence, while Lucy Staniforth scored the first equaliser with a 20-yard strike and captain Jordan Nobbs converted England's
first penalty.
England now face North Korea in the Semi-final in Christchurch, New Zealand on 13th November, 4pm (local time). More
