E.ON TEAM OF THE ROUND

Sunderland’s fantastic Semi Final performance at the Stadium of Light against National Premier League side Chelsea, has been rewarded by the Women’s FA Cup sponsors E.ON.

In a thrilling encounter, the Lady Black Cats claimed a 3-0 victory, with goals from Natalie Gutteridge and Sophie Williams (2), to book their place in the final against top flight opponents Arsenal.

Sunderland have won the E.ON Team of the Round award for the second consecutive time after coming from two goals behind to defeat another Premier League side Bristol Academy 4-2 in the Sixth Round Proper.

Sunderland captain Stephanie Bannon, delighted with the award said: "To defeat a Premier League side of Chelsea's quality by three goals is a fantastic achievement.

"No-one outside the club gave us a chance against Chelsea but the girls were excellent and thoroughly deserve their place in the Final. I would like to thank E.ON for presenting us with this award."

Sunderland now turn their attention to the FA Women’s Cup Final which takes place on May Bank Holiday Monday (4th May) at Pride Park Derby with a 1.00pm kick off.
