Sunderland captain Steph Bannon scored the decisive spot kick at Bramall Lane as Northumbria clinched the BUCS Championship Final.

In a repeat of last years final, the two University sides Leeds Met and Northumbria, went head to head for the 2010 BUCS Championship at Sheffield United's Bramall Lane.

There were 7 Sunderland players in the Northumbria squad including Steph Bannon, Emma Bentley, Natalie Gutteridge, Vicki Greenwell, Jess Havelock,
Abby Holmes and Jane Riddell.  Whilst Sarah Danby lined up against her club team mates for Leeds Met.

It was Leeds Met who took the lead in the first half but Northumbria hit back with a second half equaliser taking the game to extra-time. As the scores remained level after the additional 30 minutes, the game was decided by penalities.

Sunderland's Vicki Greenwell, Jane Riddell, Natalie Gutteridge and Steph Bannon all scored from the spot for Northumbria, with Sarah Danby also converting for Leeds Met. However, as Leeds fired one over the bar, it was up to captain Steph Bannon to score the winning penalty and claim a dramatic 5-3 shoot out victory for Northumbria.
