Jordan Scoops FA Young Player of the Year
Sunderland WFC Midfielder Jordan Nobbs awarded FA Young Player Award at Wembley
29 June 2010

Sunderland Women midfielder Jordan Nobbs scooped the FA Young Player of the Year award at Wembley Stadium last night.

The 17-year-old picked up the honour after a tremendous first season in the FA Women's Premier League, helping the Lady Black Cats to an impressive fifth-place finish.

Nobbs was a vital part of the England Women’s U19 team which claimed European championship glory last summer and also helped them reach this year’s final, where they lost to France.

She is now in the England U20 squad which plays in the world finals in Germany next month.

"There are some amazing young players in the country so winning the award came as a bit of a shock to be honest," said Nobbs.

"It's a great privilege even to be in the top three, never mind winning it, so I'm obviously very happy that I did. I think I had a decent season; you always know when you've played well and when you've not played so well.  I still think I can improve though. I've played to the best of my ability and I've had some great help from Sunderland and the England U19s and now I’m looking forward to the U20 World Cup next month.”

"Jordan's a top quality player who glides around the pitch making things happen, said Sunderland Manager Mick Mulhern.   I have said for many months that Jordan will go on and become the senior England team captain. She has had a fantastic season and I think she fully deserves this award”.
