Two Sunderland Players selected to attend England U19 Training Camp
Sunderland defenders Ellie Christon and Sophie Halliday have been selected in a 28 woman squad to attend an England U-19 training
camp in Manchester.
The five-day camp will take place from 15-19 August and will provide Head Coach Mo Marley with the opportunity
to assess a number of players who will look to take over from the recent crop of players who were runners-up in the 2010 European
Championship in Macedonia.
The camp will include matches against Denmark and the Republic of Ireland.
“I am delighted that Ellie
and Sophie have been called up to the England U19 squad,” said Sunderland Manager Mick Mulhern. “Ellie has been with us since January
and has worked very hard on her game and will have a good future with Sunderland. She played at the back end of the season and impressed
everyone with her performances”.
“Sophie had one or two injury problems last season, but is flying again now, which can only
be of benefit to us. I believe this is a marvellous opportunity for Sophie to establish herself in the U19s squad. I have
no doubt both will do well at the camp.”
“It is important as a club that we continue to provide young players to the international
set up and I am sure another two players will be involved in the U17 squad shortly.”
“This new group of young international players, in
addition to the four girls who recently took part in the U20's World Cup, plus older players like Kelly Mac, Helen Alderson and
Rachael Laws, shows we are continuing to progress as a club.
Everyone at the club wishes Ellie and Sophie the best of luck in
Manchester.
