Sunderland Ladies could not press home their dominance as they could only manage a draw on their visit to Watford on Sunday. Despite having the bulk of possession and countless chances they could only share the spoils against a Watford side who played the last hour with only 10 players after their keeper was sent off after conceding a penalty.
Sunderland started brightly with early chances from McDougall and Williams. Bannon then headed wide from close range before a Nobbs diving header brought a good save from 5yds out. The visitors enjoyed most of the possession and dominated all over the pitch. However missed chances proved costly as a Watford long ball was picked up by Holmes who delivered a short back pass for Watfords Wiltshire to pick up and slot past an unlucky Alderson who despite getting a hand to the ball could not prevent a goal on 16mins.
Sunderland pressed forward and were rewarded with a penalty after Ramshaw played Williams through for the keeper to bring her down as she prepared to shoot. The goalkeeper was shown a red card before McDougall calmly slotted the penalty into the top corner to level the scores on 32 mins

Sunderland continued to press forward and dominated the play producing chance after chance whilst playing some good football but they could not find the net. This was the story throughout the second half with Watford happy to sit and defend looking to counter attack on rare occasions.
With missed chances the story of the game, the final score of 1-1 was no reflection of the pattern of the game as Sunderland totally dominated from start to finish.
