Abby Holmes and Kiera Ramshaw combined well to set up the first chance on goal for Beth Mead but her effort was well held by keeper Lauren Davey. Constant pressure on the visiting goal finally paid off in the 16th minute as Sophie Williams broke away down the left and crossed for Ramshaw to control and turn before hitting a shot high into the Watford net. A similar move down the left brought a second goal on 22 minutes as Williams crossed for Ramshaw to flick the ball up before volleying home past the helpless Davey. The home side continued to press forward as Holmes and Ramshaw again combined to set up Kelly McDougall but her effort was just off target. Sarah Wiltshire broke away for Watford moments before half time but Rachel Laws was out smartly to smother the danger before Sarah McFadden completed the clearance.

Nicola Devine played in Williams who went clear on the left before cutting inside to drive in a shot which was beaten out by Davey. Then a rare break by the visitors resulted in Kate Natkiel pulling her shot well wide. A series of home corners led to Sunderland scoring their third goal in the 63rd minute. Williams swung the ball in from the right and as Steph Bannon poked the ball forward Ramshaw got the final touch to complete her hat-trick. Natalie Gutteridge and Rachel Lee linked well to send Mead through the middle in the 69th minute and the youngster confidently rounded the keeper to score Sunderlands fourth from an acute angle. It was all one way traffic as Williams cleverly broke away on the left and her angled cross was met at the far post by Mead but she could only push the ball wide from a tight angle. Further efforts from Gutteridge, McDougall and Ramshaw were off target before The Lady Black Cats went nap in the 90th minute. Substitute Beth Gardener jinked her way down the left and floated a delightful cross for McDougall to head home at the far post.

Boss Mick Mulhern was a happy man after the game..The girls did very well today. We had to get the Villa result out of our system and that was exactly the response I was looking for. The 3 points were essential but the clean sheet was a bonus and we are all delighted.
